How many planets are there? How astronomers in Prague “throttled” Pluto

9. 11. 2021, 10:00-10:35

At the 2006 meeting of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, a clear definition of the planets was voted on. Since most of us have been taught about the 9 planets in the past, the new reorganization of the planets without Pluto in the solar system is surprising. In fact, for many years the controversy over whether Pluto is a real planet or just an icy remnant from the planet-forming era orbiting in the distant outer space of the Solar System has been on the agenda. So what about the actual number of planets?
