When you say aerospace, the first company that comes to mind for many people is Honeywell, which employs more than 100,000 people worldwide. Honeywell is a huge name not only abroad, but also in the Czech Republic, where it has been operating for over 60 years. Honeywell opened its first office here in 1962. This was followed in 1993 by the first stand-alone development lab (at the time the first Honeywell opened outside the US). And she didn’t stop at just one. Today, the company has branches, which focus mainly on the aerospace industry, in Prague, Olomouc and Brno. In addition, the company opened a state-of-the-art research centre for logistics and warehouse automation in Brno in early 2023, which is Honeywell’s largest research centre in Europe.
Few companies have as broad a reach as Honeywell, which leaves a significant footprint across several industries, including the aerospace sector. This is enriched by innovative products that contribute to the success of the missions of a number of space platforms. Its products and services include satellite guidance and attitude control, momentum control systems and control moment gyroscopes, or mechanisms for antenna pointing and satellite and optical communications.
How is Honeywell International s.r.o. changing the face of the aerospace industry? For example, its participation in the PROBA-3 mission, which includes a special three-axis gyroscope for determining the rotation of the satellite, which was manufactured in the Czech Republic, is significant. In the Czech Republic, Honeywell also develops the aforementioned actuators used to rotate satellite antennas, systems for optical communication between satellites, and systems for satellite communication ensuring a seamless connection between satellite and aircraft.
