Leading a study on the use of nuclear fuel for challenging space missions and collaborating on the Hera mission to help find an effective way to defend Earth in the event of an asteroid impact. These are some of the key projects of OHB Czechspace that we will take a closer look at. But first, let’s take a look at OHB Czechspace itself, which was founded five years ago and has been a member of the European Space and Technology Group OHB SE since 2018. This company specialises in the supply of space equipment structures, satellite adapters, MGSE and other structural subsystems and aims to contribute to making the Czech Republic one of the leading forces in the space industry.
As we have already outlined, one of the company’s most recent achievements is that it has been appointed by ESA representatives to lead a study called RocketRoll, which aims to explore the use of nuclear fuel for demanding space logistics and exploration missions. OHB Czechspace will work with leading Czech and German experts on this study over a twelve-month period.
Another important project of OHB Czechspace is the aforementioned cooperation on the European Space Agency’s (ESA) planetary defence mission known as Hera. How is OHB Czechspace involved in this mission? By developing a complete spacecraft design to analyse the impact crater as well as various properties of the target asteroid. OHB Czechspace not only has to ensure that all the structural parts can withstand the hostile environment in space, but also that the probe will be safely transported to various assembly sites across Europe.
